Personally, I have a love hate relationship with the Fast and Furious franchise.  As far as the last installment, I'd say it was just OK. However, you can't knock $72 Million opening weekend in April when movies rarely break $20 Million.  You also can't understate the value of such a resounding statement that love for cars continues to grow strong.

Some say it's Diesel, others say it's Walker, yet others say it's really the hot girls.  Whatever your poison, I'm sure there's some truth in all the theories.  I prefer to think its all those folks but mostly the cars.  Unfortunately, it is on this point, the cars, where I felt the movie slipped somewhat from its core.  Without spoiling the movie for those who had to work nights last weekend, I wish there were more cars, more imports, more racing and a tighter focus on motorsports with less of the tired drug-smuggling plot.

Overall, I suppose the makers of this movie met their goal which most likely was not to reinforce automotive enthuzia but instead make as many dollars for Universal as possible.  I applaud Universal for bringing the culture to the big screen 8 years ago but on the net, the series may have done more damage than good for the true enthusiast--most especially the import enthusiast.

Did you see F&F 2009 and what did you think of it?

Re: $72M in 3 days = Fast & Furious. But...

I saw the new Fast & Furious opening night. I thought it was good, however I would really like to know who thought up the idea that a 1970 Chevelle can handle with an R34 GT-R. And that not all muscle cars can do 400 foot wheel stands, especially at the end where Dom does a wheel stand in the F-bomb Camaro doin what look like a good 50-70 mph. Now that F-bomb Camaro has a Nelson Racing Engines twin-turbo big block in it probably pushin like 1500 horse, if you've never heard of Nelson Racing Engines check em out, but come on, you cant just down shift and pull a wheel stand. But other than that the movie was okay, a hell of alot better than the 2nd movie.

I saw the new movie. I liked it, it wasn't bad. They tied up the loose ends in the previous films pretty well. The only problem I ever have with movies like this is that they cut up perfectly good cars to make it. I mean, they're not making any more classic camaros, Chevelles, Chargers etc. and it seems a shame to me to blow up these cars, or cut them up for the sake of filming different camera angles.

I think the movie was realy good, but as was touched on all ready there wasnt realy alot of variety in the cars as i would like to see. The ending was definatley the best part but since there will be another sequal we will just have to see. Still since seeing the first one on my birthday it definatly got me hooked on cars and i think the F&F series is good for the import/car sene.

In all honesty the movie was really entertaining to watch. However as it has been said(and said again, and again) I really feel there wasn't enough focus on the cars for a movie with the franchise being based on the love for a good ol' JDM rice rocket. The girls were good and I'm sure there were people out there who enjoyed look at Diesel's arms and such but it really just wasn't all there like it was in tokyo drift. Also, at what point does that GT-R ever have any competion from a muscle car, you cant even drift in classic muscle, it just doesnt work (i tried). Oh well, maybe the next one will be better?

The movie was interesting in parts. Yes there wasnt a great deal of focus on the cars. I thought that was what it was supposed to be about and racing. it would of been a lot better if they focused on imports instead of adding the muscle cars. They should of put in exotics instead. At least there would be a chance of them beating a gtr and drifting . It was a pretty good movie other then that.
